Shared Roads and New Horizons

Moto-therapy isn’t just about the miles you put on the odometer; it’s about the people you share them with and the memories you carve into the asphalt. Saturday, June 27th, was one of those days where the roar of the engine carried a hint of nostalgia. It was time to say goodbye to my great adventure companion, Gokhan, who will soon be returning to Turkey.

For our final ride together on American soil, we had to go with my absolute favorite local loop.

The Route: Between Land and Water

• The Start: As usual, the wheels started turning right from my driveway, leaving the daily routine behind.
• Heading to Knotts Island: We rode through the scenic, winding roads that cut through the marshlands, heading straight for the Knotts Island ferry terminal. This stretch is pure moto-therapy—gentle curves, open air, and that growing sense of freedom.
• The Ferry Crossing: A 45-minute cruise over to Currituck. With the summer heat beating down heavily, the ferry was a true blessing. We parked the bikes on the deck and escaped into the crisp, air-conditioned cabin—a perfect break to relax, talk shop, and watch the water glide by.
• The Return via Chesapeake: After rolling off the ramp in Currituck, we closed the loop by riding back through Chesapeake, soaking in the final miles of the journey.

Passing the Torch (and the Keys)

Since Gokhan already sold his bike ahead of his move, there was no way I was leaving him behind for our final ride. In a true spirit of brotherhood, I handed him the keys to my BMW R1150 GS. I wanted him to feel the difference, and well… moto-therapy worked its magic again. Gokhan absolutely loved the GS—its handling, its presence—and admitted he’s seriously considering buying one once he gets settled back home.

It was a beautiful ride, though tinged with sadness. Knowing we won’t be hitting these American roads together anymore hits hard, but brotherhood forged on two wheels knows no borders. Ride safe, Gokhan!
